About GetTech

GetTech was established in 2015 with a small team of two to three employees. Over the years the team has been growing and today it is operating with a group of about 14 staff members out of an office in Cork City.

While we purchase a wide variety of consumer electronics, some devices and models are too old for us to purchase as their software is no longer supported or replacement parts in order to refurbish the device are unavailable or hard to come by, deeming the device ineligible to be sold as a functioning device in a modern market. 

We would however be able to recycle it for you should you wish to send it to us.  

 

A broken or damaged device can mean a variety of things. Not to worry, we’ll still buy it in many cases!

Your device is considered damaged if ANY of the following are true:

  • The LCD is damaged
  • Heavy corner drop marks
  • Does not power on properly
  • Has physical defects in multiple locations.
  • The back of the phone is cracked/damaged

A device falls under the broken category if ANY of the following are true: 

  • Does NOT power on at all
  • Serious physical damage / Bent frame
  • Cannot connect to iTunes
  • Logic board component failure sure as Audio IC, Touch IC
  • Face ID does not work

If your device’s screen is cracked, but it still works and the back glass is intact, it will most likely fall under the Cracked Glass category. 

If the back glass is cracked also, but it still powers on, please select the Damaged category. 

If the device is cracked front and back, and it doesn’t power on or the frame is bent, this would be in the Broken category. 

 

Devices

With our service we will buy a variety of consumer electronics like tablets, smart watches, game consoles, computers and more!

 

Even your broken tech can be worth something! With our service you can book the sale of broken phones online and we will fully test the device for you upon receiving it into our shop. If it isn’t worth buying we can also recycle it for you free of charge. 

 

No, we would highly recommend getting your device unlocked before selling it to us. You can read more about how to unlock your device here. 

 

In order to sell us your device, it must be network unlocked. The easiest way to check for a network lock is to try a different network’s SIM in your device.

 

  1. Borrow a SIM from a friend or family member, and pop it into your phone. 

  2. Give it a couple of minutes to initialise.

  3. Check if you have signal and data. 

  4. Try making a phone call. 

 

If you have no signal, cannot make a call, or if you are prompted for a SIM unlock code, or if the device says the sim is not supported it means your device is network locked. 

 

Please remove your sim card before shipping the device to us. If you do not need your sim card you can keep it in your device for us to remove and shred upon arrival.

In most cases, we do not require any accessories or chargers. Please read the condition terms carefully, as some items may require the charger to get full value.

Each device category is graded differently. You can see our condition terms for each specific device when getting a quote. If you are uncertain or need further clarification, please contact us on sell@gettech.com before sending your device.

We do not limit the amount of devices you can sell at any given time. However if your order exceeds 100 devices and or a value of €25 000 we recommend working directly with a member of our team to receive special pricing and other bulk benefits.

If you’re an iPhone user, this will be quite easy as Apple instals liquid indicators inside their devices. 

Just remove the SIM tray and look for a red colour inside - you may need bright lighting. If it's red, that means the Liquid Contact Indicator has been activated and there is water damage. It should appear white or silver if there is no damage.

 

A blacklisted device is one that has been reported stolen or lost by its owner, and the device IMEI is blocked. This means that it is impossible to use the device any longer. A device is greylisted if it has been blocked by a carrier due to unpaid bills.

We do not accept blacklisted and greylisted devices for BuyBack. 

 

Orders

Selling your device to GetTech is as easy as 1, 2, 3! 

 

  1. Register your sale - Simply search for the device you want to sell to see how much it's worth. Choose one of our great payment methods, enter your details and job done!

  2. Send device - Create your free return shipping label with An Post or DPD. Backup your device, remove all accounts, factory restore the device, package it up securely and ship it to us. Your quote is valid for 30 days so be sure to send it to us within this time frame. Alternatively you can drop it off at our shop in Cork City.

  3. Fast payment - Once we receive your device, we will check your order and if all is correct we'll make the payment on the same day we process the device. 

 

You don’t have to make a purchase from GetTech, sign up for any contracts or additional services to sell your device to us. We offer a hassle free buy back program that is open to all residents in Ireland. 

 

We process all orders the same business day we receive your package. You will receive a confirmation email once your sale has been received and processed. 

If we need more information or encounter any issues, we will get in touch straight away! 

When booking a sale you will receive an order number and a tracking number for the return package. You can track the status of the shipment on the chosen courier’s website. Once we’ve received your buyback, a confirmation email is sent from our team. We will also keep you updated along the way.

Yes, you can trade in your old device and use the value towards a purchase of a new device.

Alternatively, you can sell your device to us and use the money paid out to you towards a purchase at a later stage.

 

The buyback value of a model will depend on the condition of the device and its value on the used smartphone market.

We have several condition descriptors that your device can fall under. Select the one that you feel best describes your device and get an instant quote! 

 

For devices valued over €400, we will ask for proof of purchase in the form of a receipt, e-receipt or a valid photo ID in lieu of a receipt. 

 

We will properly recycle the traded in devices, strip them for parts to be reused when refurbishing or repairing devices allowing us to keep costs down and our pricing competitive. If the device is repairable we will refurbish it to be sold. This will also allow us to offer you the best deals on refurbished products on our website as our products are sold directly in the Irish market. 

If it can’t be repurposed we’ll recycle it free of charge, preventing it from ending up in a landfill. 

 

If you change your mind about selling your device, you can let us know by emailing us at sell@gettech.com. If your offer has expired and you would still like to sell the device after 30 days, you can inform us by sending us an email with your initial offer number. Please note, changes to prices may have occurred after 30 days as we review our prices based on changes in market conditions.

You can choose between three options.

  1.  You can post the device to us using your free An Post shipping label sent to your email address. Once your device is packaged, you can drop it off at one of An Post’s drop-off points.

  1. Book a collection with An Post where they will collect the parcel from your address. You do not need to print a label for this and bookings can be made here.

  2. Drop your device to us in-store in our Cork office. Please ensure you have your buyback information ready if you have already logged it on our site.

 

Payments

You have the option to be paid via bank transfer or PayPal. Alternatively you can also use the money towards a purchase from our website. 

In most cases payments are made on the same day the device has been received, after it is processed by our specialist team. 

 

Once we received your device we’ll process your sale and issue payment 1-2 business days if there isn’t a change to the payout quoted.

For PayPal, your funds will reach your account that very same day. For bank transfers, your funds are issued the same day but may take up to three business days to land in your account.

 

Our specialist team will confirm the buyback value after receiving and inspecting the device. If the device does not meet the conditions for the initial quote we will send you a revised offer to accept or decline.

If you don’t want to go ahead with the sale we will send the device back to you free of charge. We would however advise to be truthful when booking in the sale to keep the process as straightforward as possible.

Shipping

Sending your device to us is straightforward and free! We offer flexible options like collection from your home using An Post, dropping it off at a local post office or using a DPD collection point. With an at home collection you also don’t need a printer to print off a label as your local postie will provide it for you! You can also drop the device off at our shop in Cork City. 

 

Unfortunately we currently do not purchase items from outside of Ireland.

We use registered express shipping with DPD and An Post. 

 

There is no cost to ship your devices using our standard shipping method. Upon completing the online booking process you will receive instructions on how to create your free post label. 

 

Please send your devices within 30 days of creating a buyback. If we receive an expired buyback we will re-quote your devices to our current price.

We recommend you try using only one package to ship your devices. For larger orders if that is not possible you can always request more shipping labels right from your order confirmation page or by contact sell@gettech.com

There are a few steps to take, to ensure that your device is ready for sale: 

 

1. Ensure the device is network unlocked

2. Backup your data

3. Remove iCloud or Google/Samsung account

4. Erase the device, remove any passcodes/passwords

In order to sell your device to us it would need to be unlocked and restored to factory settings. If you aren’t sure how to do this you can follow our step by step instructions below:

It is crucial to ensure that your device reaches us safely! Please take care when packaging your device to be shipped. The best option is to send your old device back in sturdy packaging like a quality padded envelope or a box with plenty of cushioning material such as bubble wrap or newspaper. Please also include your buyback offer number, name, contact number and return address with the parcel. 

Once the device is packaged please secure the label to the box or envelope and get it sent down to us.

 

In the rare occasion that this should happen, please make sure to communicate with us as soon as possible that the item seems to be lost. 

We will then declare the item lost to the courier - in order to do this, you must inform us as soon as you notice the item still isn’t delivered to our office. This can be done by tracking the package using the tracking number generated when the free post label was created.

If the courier declares the item lost, we will file a claim with them. We may ask you for additional documents in order to do so and you will need to send the information as soon as possible so that the claim can be processed without delay. Once the claim has been settled we will inform you of the next steps. In this case, we can then proceed with a full refund of the value of the shipment. 

Timeframes for completion will vary on a case to case basis.

 

If the item shipped to us is suspected to have been damaged in transit our customer service team will contact you straight away with photos and relevant proof of damage. We will subsequently file a claim with the courier on your behalf if the free shipping methods were used. Once the claim has been settled we will inform you of the next steps.

However, it is extremely important that the item is packaged securely in a padded envelope or box as damage done to the item in transit will not be covered by GetTech and it will affect your payout value if the item is damaged. 

 

We provide a variety of free shipping options so there wouldn't be any need for you to arrange your own courier or shipment. If it would make you more comfortable to use your own arranged methods please note all items being returned to us need to have a valid tracking number and we would request that you retain all proof of shipping. The cost of this would however not be covered by GetTech and we wouldn’t be able to assist in any lost or damaged shipment claims.

 

We provide a variety of free shipping options so there wouldn't be any need for you to create your own shipping labels or pay for shipping. Should you encounter any issues with the free shipping please contact our team first as we would not be able to reimburse you for any shipping costs without prior consent.
